CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – On July 1, South Carolina's cigarette tax will increase 50 cents, lifting the state from the lowest rate in the nation to 42nd. The tax may make it tough for some smokers to continue their habit.Less than a week until South Carolina's 700% tax increase kicks in."There are many people who smoke who are on a fixed income and can't afford the increase," said Andy Miller, owner of Low Country Tobacco.
Whether customers like it or not, the cigarette tax increase is on its way and some smokers are stocking up now.
