Train derailment in Mineral Springs

I woke up this morning to news of a train wreck/derailment in Mineral Springs.

I have few details, but it sounds like there were about 9 cars derailed when one northbound train hit either a stopped or slowly moving northbound train.

Initial reports claimed there was one fatality, but they appear to have been withdrawn as the latest reports claimed four were injured, one being airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. Photos show lots of smoke and flames as does this one, from WSOC's slideshow.

Highway 75 was apparently closed from Western Union School Road to Potter Road, in booming downtown Mineral Springs. I imagine this will be closed for quite some based on the proximity of the wreck to Highway 75. Per my elementary sleuthing, it occurred at the following location. The barely legible red X marks the spot.

No hazardous materials were on board, so our area is getting lucky once again.

WSOC's story has some details as well.

UPDATE 10.35am: Local media is now reporting that two CSX crew members were indeed killed in the wreck. Updated blog post here.
